Social Security Disability Insurance/Supplemental Security Income

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a vested interest in helping disability beneficiaries and recipients return to or enter the world of work. The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) shares that goal. Beneficiaries of SSDI and recipients of SSI can get help from the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services to reach employment goals.

Ticket to Work

ADRS is an approved provider under SSA's TIcket To Work (TTW) program. To learn how to assign your Ticket to ADRS and discover how the TTW program can help you fulfill your employment goals, visit ADRS TTW FAQs.  Our list of "frequently asked questions" can help you get started on the path toward greater self-sufficiency.

Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA)/Benefits Counseling

If you are currently seeking employment or have a job offer and need to know the impact of work on your benefits, the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services has trained, certified community work incentive coordinators (CWICs) to help you.  These CWICs help SSDI/SSI beneficiaries and recipients make informed decisions regarding how employment may affect their current and future benefit status. This information provides increased opportunity for SSA beneficiaries and recipients to take advantage of available work incentives. WIPA and benefits counseling services are free of charge.  There is no fee for accessing these services.

The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services Benefits Counseling program is a unique program that blends grant funding from the Social Security Administration with other agency funds to provide benefits counseling services statewide. As of August 1, 2015, ADRS is the sole WIPA provider funded by SSA in Alabama. Regardless of your county of residence, you can contact the main referral hotline and obtain the assistance you need.

To get help, contact the toll-free ADRS Benefits Counseling Information and Referral Hotline at 1-877-816-4602.
